Ongoing Projects

Art in Bloom, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (Floral Design)   We sponsor a member to represent our club at this fine showing of the best of the best.

Garden Therapy for Hanover Seniors (Garden Therapy/ Community Involvement & Outreach/ Floral Design)  Club members work with Hanover senior citizens on a regular basis to create container plantings or decorative projects with live or dried materials.

Hanover Day (Community Outreach/Education)   As part of community outreach, the club provides information concerning important ecological/environmental issues and club projects and activities at the annual June field day.

Kindergarten Seed Planting (Education)   WHGC educates all Hanover elementary school kindergarten students with a seed starting program and an educational presentation.

Maintenance of the Historic Stetson House Gardens in conjunction with Hanover Garden Club (HGC) (Civic Beautification/Historic Preservation)   A team of members maintains the period herb and wildflower garden at the historic Stetson House with HGC members.

New England Spring Flower Show (Floral Design)   WHGC actively participates in at least one club category and several members do individual projects.

Newsletter/Facebook Page/ Website (Publications/Communications)   The Walnut Hill Garden Club Newsletter, Nutsey News, is published eleven months, August through June. The club maintains a Facebook Page www.facebook.com/pages/Walnut-Hill-Garden-Club-of-Hanover/205558916207085, and a website: www.walnuthillgardenclub.org

Planting/Maintaining Town Traffic Islands in conjunction with Hanover Garden Club (HGC) (Civic Beautification)   Club teams plant perennials and annuals to maintain attractive, colorful islands throughout the town – a rewarding experience for both the volunteers and the public passing by.

Landscaping and Maintaining the Planting at the World War I Monument / Flag Pole at Sylvester School (Civic Beautification) WHGC designed and donated the World War I Memorial planting & landscape and maintains it.

Rain Garden (Conservation) Maintain the award-winning eco-friendly Rain Garden we designed and planted in conjunction with HGC.

Recycling (Conservation/Environmental Protection)   At three central town locations, collect printer ink and toner cartridges, cell phones, lap tops, digital phones, hand held games and e-readers for recycling and to prevent improper disposal of heavy metals into dump sites.

Scholarships to Hanover High School and South Shore Vocational Technical High School Graduating Seniors (Scholarships)  The club presents a total of 3 scholarships annually.

World War II Memorial/Flag Pole at Hanover Town Hall (Civic Beautification)   Maintain the renewed planting at the World War II Memorial in front of the Hanover Town Hall.

Civil War Memorial at First Congregational Church (UCC) with HGC (Civic Beautification)   Plant annuals and maintain the perennials at this highly visible town center site.

NEW PROJECTS 2014-2015

Bandstand (Development/ Civic Beautification)  New Town bandstand building project to be completed in the Fall of 2014.   The Walnut Hill Garden Club will design and install new plantings in cooperation with Town departments.

Forge Pond Park (Civic Beautification/ Community Outreach) Club representatives collaborate with the Hanover Parks and Recreation Department and Committee, focusing on landscape design, appropriate plant materials, and civic projects to enhance this community park.
