{"id":121,"date":"2014-08-18T23:30:53","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T23:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/walnuthillgardenclub.org\/?page_id=121"},"modified":"2025-10-21T21:11:03","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T01:11:03","slug":"community-projects","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/walnuthillgardenclub.org\/?page_id=121","title":{"rendered":"Community Projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Ongoing Projects<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Art in Bloom, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston<\/strong> <strong><em>(Floral Design)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 We sponsor a member to represent our club at this fine showing of the best of the best.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Garden Therapy for Hanover Seniors<\/strong> <strong><em>(Garden Therapy\/ Community Involvement &amp; Outreach\/ Floral Design) <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Club members work with Hanover senior citizens on a regular basis to create container plantings or decorative projects with live or dried materials.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hanover Day<\/strong> <strong><em>(Community Outreach\/Education)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 As part of community outreach, the club provides information concerning important ecological\/environmental issues and club projects and activities at the annual June field day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kindergarten Seed Planting<\/strong> <strong><em>(Education)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 WHGC educates all Hanover elementary school kindergarten students with a seed starting program and an educational presentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maintenance of the Historic Stetson House Gardens in conjunction with Hanover Garden Club (HGC)<\/strong> <em>(Civic Beautification\/Historic Preservation)<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0 A team of members maintains the period herb and wildflower garden at the historic Stetson House with HGC members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New England Spring Flower Show<\/strong> <strong><em>(Floral Design)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 WHGC actively participates in at least one club category and several members do individual projects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Newsletter\/Facebook Page\/ Website<\/strong> <strong><em>(Publications\/Communications)<\/em><\/strong> \u00a0 The Walnut Hill Garden Club Newsletter, Nutsey News, is published eleven months, August through June. The club maintains a Facebook Page <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/walnuthillgardenclub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/walnuthillgardenclub<\/a>\u00a0and a website: www.walnuthillgardenclub.org<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planting\/Maintaining Town Traffic Islands in conjunction with Hanover Garden Club (HGC)<\/strong> <strong><em>(Civic Beautification)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Club teams plant perennials and annuals to maintain attractive, colorful islands throughout the town &#8211; a rewarding experience for both the volunteers and the public passing by.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Landscaping and Maintaining the Planting at the World War I Monument \/ Flag Pole at Sylvester School <em>(Civic Beautification)<\/em><\/strong> WHGC designed and donated the World War I Memorial planting &amp; landscape and maintains it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rain Garden<\/strong> <strong><em>(Conservation) <\/em><\/strong> Maintain the award-winning eco-friendly Rain Garden we designed and planted in conjunction with HGC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recycling<\/strong> <strong><em>(Conservation\/Environmental Protection)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 At three central town locations, collect printer ink and toner cartridges, cell phones, lap tops, digital phones, hand held games and e-readers for recycling and to prevent improper disposal of heavy metals into dump sites.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scholarships to Hanover High School and South Shore Vocational Technical High School Graduating Seniors <em>(Scholarships) <\/em><\/strong>\u00a0The club presents a total of 3 scholarships annually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>World War II Memorial\/Flag Pole at Hanover Town Hall <\/strong><strong><em>(Civic Beautification)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Maintain the renewed planting at the World War II Memorial in front of the Hanover Town Hall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Civil War Memorial at First Congregational Church (UCC) with HGC<\/strong> <strong><em>(Civic Beautification)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Plant annuals and maintain the perennials at this highly visible town center site.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>NEW PROJECTS 2014-2015<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bandstand<\/strong> <strong><em>(Development\/ Civic Beautification)<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 New Town bandstand building project to be completed in the Fall of 2014.\u00a0\u00a0 The Walnut Hill Garden Club will design and install new plantings in cooperation with Town departments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Forge Pond Park<\/strong> <strong><em>(Civic Beautification\/ Community Outreach) <\/em><\/strong>Club representatives collaborate with the Hanover Parks and Recreation Department and Committee, focusing on landscape design, appropriate plant materials, and civic projects to enhance this community park.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ongoing Projects Art in Bloom, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (Floral Design)\u00a0\u00a0 We sponsor a member to represent our club at this fine showing of the best of the best.
